What is IPL?

IPL stands for Intense pulsed light. It’s a technology used by cosmetic and medical practitioners to perform various skin treatments. It creates a broad spectrum of light which pulses through your skin in three waves releasing energy as it penetrates through.

How many sessions of IPL will I need and how frequently do I need to have my treatment?

Because our hairs grow in different stages of the growth cycle, multiple treatments are required 4-6 weeks apart to achieve adequate results. At least 10 treatments are required for a permanent result.

Can I wax or tweeze in between treatments?

Unfortunately, no. In order for the hairs to be treated, the Intense Pulsed Light must be able to travel down the hair follicle to the blood supply. If the hair has been waxed or tweezed out, the hair cannot be treated.

Is IPL suitable for grey, white, blonde, or red hair?

Unfortunately, not. The IPL is attracted to anything with dark pigment, so is not able to treat grey, white, blonde, or red hair. Basically, the darker and thicker your hair is, the better the result.

How can I prepare for my IPL session?

The hair needs to be trimmed, so shaving 1-2 days before your treatment will be adequate.

Does shaving affect hair growth?

No. Shaving does not in any way affect the blood supply of the hair, it will not create more hair growth. However, because the fine tip of the hair is being cut off with shaving or trimming it can feel thicker/bristlier. If you are getting an area on the face treated, we recommend using a facial trimmer on an angle to reduce the bristly feeling.

Realistic results

IPL is a permanent method of hair reduction, however due to hormones in the body no IPL machine can guarantee 100% hair reduction. We aim for 80%.
